Heininen set St. Francis of Assisi's Song Creation for baritone with three alternative accompaniments, organ, piano or orchestra, in 1968. It is one of his rare vocal works, and in it he admits an exceptional lyricism and optimism into the rigorous world of his 60's serialist style.
