About Håkon Thelin
Håkon Thelin is a double bass player and composer. He performs with ensembles Oslo Sinfonietta, musikFabrik, Ensemble Modern and POING. His main group for 13 years, POING has taken him on tours throughout the world, with premieres of more than 70 works and collaborations with musicians of nearly all genres. In 2011, POING were artistic leaders and artists in residence at the Ultima festival in Oslo. At present, his main interest lies in contemporary and folk music, and in the sonic exploration of harmonics and multiphonics on the double bass. This is expressed in his own compositions as well as in collaboration with folk singer Unni Lovlid. The duo released their first recording “LUX”in 2013. His latest solo release “Light”, was awarded the Norwegian Grammy for Best contemporary music album of 2011. From 2007 to 2011, Håkon Thelin worked as artistic re search fellow at the Norwegian Academy of Music with the project “A new world of sounds – advancements in contemporary double bass techniques”, especially focusing on the music and techniques of Stefano Scodanibbio. Together with Knut Guettler he has also presented a ground breaking research on multiphonics on the double bass. He is currently teaching at the Norwegian Academy of Music.www.haakonthelin.com
