About Paul Panhuysen
Paul Panhuysen (*1934 in Borgharen, The Netherlands) is a true multimedia artist. After studying art at Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht 1954–59, he studied sociology at the University of Utrecht until 1961. Subsequently he worked as an academy director in Leeuwarden and as a museum curator in The Hague and Eindhoven, while at the same time becoming one of the leading exponents of the Dutch Post-Fluxus Situationist movement. Since the late 1960s his work has expanded from painting into a variety of media, including urban planning and music. In addition to his ongoing work with the Maciunas Ensemble, he has given hundreds of performances of his own, mostly in the realm of installations with long wires and machine-generated music. In 1980, with the help of his wife Hélène, he founded Het Apollohuis, a platform by artists for artists that was forced to close in 2001.
