About Wayne Horvitz
No drums. No bass. Rhythm nevertheless. Or alternatively its deliberate absence, if desired. Form. Improvisation. Harmony. Opposites. Order. Chaos. Careful calculation and freefall. A playful dialogue between the ideals of jazz and new music. Focus via diffusion. The composer, keyboarder and producer Wayne Horvitz, one of the most multifaceted and respected artists on New York’s downtown scene, uses catchy tunes to lull the unsuspecting listener into a false sense of security - until he feels like his feet are standing on the wall and he wonders why he hasn’t fallen down yet. The quartet, which besides Horvitz on keyboards is made up of trombonist Julian Priester, Eyvind Kang on the violin and a second keyboarder, Reggie Watts, is supported by the work of Tucker Martine - the experienced producer of greats such as Bill Frisell and Wayne Horvitz himself - who slightly, but effectively distorts the band’s sound without losing the predominantly acoustic flavor of the music.Products
