The band Pothole is made up of some of the most successful studio and session musicians currently working in San Francisco: Will Bernard (guit), Keith McArthur (bs), Jan Jackson (dr), Rob Vlack (keyb) and David Agretelis (sax) audibly enjoy investigating difficult terrain beyond the well trodden musical paths on their debut album “Dirty Picnic". The off-road specialists’ fun seems to increase the bumpier the ride through new jazz, hip hop and thumping funk gets. With an underlying base of solid yet sometimes complicated grooves, Pothole gets its kicks from creating shifts in style and dynamics, scattered, even seemingly psychedelic collage fragments, and refine everything with brilliant improvisations and oblique phrasing.
